Welcome.

I’m a Professor of Political Science & Faculty Director of the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Service at Albion College.

Passionate about everything human rights, I am Founder and Director of the Albion Human Rights Lab and author of Human Rights and Justice for All: Demanding Dignity in the United States and Around the World.

My expertise is in international relations, human rights, human security, transitional justice, the United Nations Security Council, mass atrocity crimes, and humanitarian intervention.

I share what I know about human rights and transitional justice by teaching for the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program, which brings incarcerated and non-incarcerated people together to study justice behind prison walls, and leading students in restorative justice through cemetery restoration in Poland with Albion’s Holocaust Studies Service-Learning Project.

I examine how power, interests, and norms intersect to shape United Nations Security Council decision-making. I promote an equitable foreign policy through the Truman National Security Project. I work to strengthen democracy as an election inspector for the Flint City Clerk’s office.

Dayne, Bennett, and Emery are the source of my joy and my greatest hope for a more just future. We enjoy Michigan hikes, Sunday brunch, serious strategy game competition, good books, Midwest cities, and advocacy.
